David Michael Meadows. DMM began his time as a carpenter at Aberdeen Studio after having a definitive hiking experience in Europe that began to shift the way he perceived the embodiment of our physical human experience to our internal conscious awareness. Working with a tangible, organic material like wood allows him to encounter the synthesis of both experiences, providing a holistic participation in the work that Aberdeen Studio does.

Q: What is your personal design ethos and how do you carry that through your work?

A: I began working in this industry because I was interested in working with my hands….

There’s something so spiritual about the process of creating for me–to turn an idea into something physical, to marry the mind and the body, and to reconcile the theoretical with the concrete.

Ep.1/

Q: Which part of the design + build industry do you see having room for growth?

A: I think that the design and build industry is, at least from my experience and perspective, far too modular. It's two-dimensional ideas vomited into three dimensions.

I see a lot of designs that are basic and bland and boring. There are no curves, no textures, and no personality.

I think that the design and build industry can focus less on ‘getting the job done’ and instead focus on leaving a unique fingerprint, being thoughtful, and having fun.

Q: How do you remain curious and imaginative throughout each of your projects?

A: It's an attitude that you cultivate. You have to surround yourself with people and things that inspire you. That's why I love this team so much. I'm constantly blown away by the work of my peers. Always consider alternatives. Always look for another way. And never take yourself too seriously.
